Roughly half the people who write to this office name a place and mean a question. Someone asks about the Dolomites and then, four messages later, mentions that a friend came back from the Julian Alps and would not stop talking. Somebody wants Connemara and has also been reading about Donegal. That pattern is old enough and consistent enough that the office built the whole booking sequence around it, which is why you can plan and book a trip with an agent here without ever being pushed toward one half of a pair.
What booking means here, said plainly before anything else: this office takes booking requests. When you decide, an agent contacts the company that actually runs the trip, holds the space in your name, and sends you their confirmation and their terms in writing. The office does not run the walking, the vehicles, the guiding or the lodging, and never says it does. You pay the operating company directly, on their schedule, using whatever method they accept. This office takes no payment at any point, holds no card number on file, and no card ever reaches this office. There is no checkout on this website, no cart, no payment page, no stored account. If you ever find a field on these pages asking for card digits, it is not ours and you should close the tab.

- An agent asks which other place you were also considering, and if you have not got a second one, suggests the one that sits beside yours in our eight pairs. Then both are priced against your own dates and read on one sheet: what each week costs per person, what is in it, what walking or driving each day involves, what the weather does in that month, what is closed. Same dates, same party size, same page. | You decide. The sheet is yours to sit with. Agents answer questions about either half and will not tell you which to take. If you want a third quote against a place we do not carry, we will say so plainly rather than talk you out of it. | We send the booking request to the operating company and hold the space in your name. Their confirmation, their cancellation terms and their payment schedule come to you in writing, from them, with our reference attached. Written figures take read by a human being before the end of that same working day. | Before departure, an agent goes through the confirmation with you line by line and fixes anything the operating company has restated. After you travel, that company pays this office a commission. Nothing about that commission is added to your price.
Four things an agent cannot do for you
- Choose between the two halves
- The office sets them side by side in facts and stops there. No agent here will say which one suits you, and none will rank them, because the difference between Arran and Mull is a difference in what you want, not in quality.
- Move a season
- Late-season lodging in the Alpujarras closes when it closes. An agent can tell you the date something shuts and find you the week before it, but cannot ask an operating company to open in a month it does not run.
- Invent a room
- If a small guesthouse in Donegal has four rooms and three are taken, that is the fact for your dates. We will price the pair against those dates rather than pretend the fourth room is flexible.
- Promise weather
- Nobody can. What the sheet gives you is the ordinary record for that month in that valley, in Fahrenheit and miles, and what each trip does when it rains. That is a record, not a forecast, and it is not a promise.
What all of this costs you
Nothing. There is no planning fee, no consultation charge, no research retainer, no per-booking service charge, and no markup added to the operating company's rate. The figure you see on a trip page is the figure the operating company charges, quoted per person, and it is the figure you will be asked for.
The office is paid afterward, by the company that runs your trip, as a commission on a completed booking. That arrangement is worth knowing about for one reason: it is the only way money moves toward this office, and it moves after you have traveled, not before. It also means an agent has nothing to gain by steering you from one half of a pair to the other. If somebody wanted to build a machine for pushing people toward whichever trip pays more, this is the wrong shape for it.
The independence goes with that. This office is a separate business from every company whose trips it arranges, is not an airline, hotel, cruise line or tour operator, and has no ownership tie to any of them. It is also not a publication of any kind. Nothing on this site is a rating, a ranking or a judgment about which place is better, and no page will ever tell you what to conclude.
Two more limits worth stating here rather than burying. Nothing here is sold or advised on where insurance is concerned, visas or passports, and will tell you to speak with the right party rather than guess. And no agent here will tell you whether a given walk is within your ability. We describe the day: distance in miles, ascent in feet, surface, and how far it is to the nearest road. What you do with that description is yours, and if you want a second opinion on it, ask a person who knows you.
